Our Story

Pawfect Balance founder and CEO, Mandy, has always loved dogs. She grew up with them and got her very first dog of her own at age 11 and since then has almost always had at least one dog in her home.

In addition to her love of dogs, Mandy’s enquiring mind and love of learning was satisfied by studying science at university which culminated in an MSc and a career in research and development in the biomedical industry.

In 2008, Mandy adopted a Great Dane, Ruby. Ruby was 8 months old at the time and they became inseparable. Giant Breed dogs are not expected to live long lives. Great Dane’s have a life expectancy of 8 to 9 years, so it became Mandy’s mission to get Ruby to live the longest, happiest life possible. Mandy fed Ruby the best quality commercial food she could afford as well as fresh meat, offal and vegetables every day. Ruby lived a long and healthy life until she died at the age of 11 years and 7 months. A few month later, the large hole Ruby left was filled by Daisy, another Great Dane. She was 5 years old at the time of her adoption, and Mandy was determined to get as many years with Daisy as she could. As with Ruby, Mandy fed Daisy the best quality dry commercial food and supplemented with a variety of fresh foods. Why change a winning game plan? But Daisy did not eat the way Ruby did. Daisy loved the fresh food so much that she would eat it and leave most of her dry food in the bowl. If she continued to only eat her small portion of fresh food, Mandy would have to ensure it was meeting all of her nutritional needs but doing so was time consuming, stressful and difficult. Surely there must be a utility to make it easier to keep track of Daisy’s nutrition. But there weren’t any comprehensive utilities available. And so Pawfect Balance was born. It is now the mission of Pawfect Balance to help others feed their dogs with confidence and to give them a long, happy, healthy life.
